Welcome, Our New Scarlet Knights to Rutgers!

Virtual Orientation

The mission of New Student Orientation and Family Programs is to welcome, prepare, and engage new students and their families in their transition to Rutgers University – New Brunswick.  Due to the impact of COVID-19, we will be implementing a virtual orientation experience for all incoming students and their families. We recognize this experience may be different than what you anticipated, but we are dedicated to still providing you an intentional and engaging experience.  You will have an opportunity to learn about tools and resources available to you as a Rutgers student, tips and strategies to best navigate the campus, and connect with other new students and student leaders.

How to Register for Virtual Orientation

You will be able to go to your MyRutgers Dashboard and select your Virtual Orientation date.  Please note, you must believe available to be online for your selected Virtual Orientation the entire time period (e.g., 10am – 1pm/EST or 1pm – 4pm/EST).

What Will You Need?

Please review the following items to make sure you are prepared for your orientation experience:

  • Use a device (computer, laptop, or tablet) that has audio functionality.
  • Virtual Orientation is best viewed by using Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
  • Access to internet
  • While not required, we recommend the use of headphones to not be distracted by background noise

How Do you Access Virtual Orientation

Virtual Orientation is supported through the University’s Learning Management System, Canvas.  Canvas is the platform many of our faculty use and where the majority of your coursework will be located.  This is a great opportunity for you to get comfortable using Canvas. You will receive access details and instructions via Rutgers email one week prior to your session.  You will not be able to access orientation before then.

Virtual Orientation is split into two sections a 3 hour synchronous section – everyone logs in at the same time to receive live/real-time information and an asynchronous section – complete different modules at your own speed – that can take up to 3 hours to complete. Please make sure you leave plenty of time to complete each portion of the program.

Our orientation staff team will be available to assist with your Virtual Orientation experience and/or questions about your transition to Rutgers University.  Please feel free to contact us at orientation@echo.rutgers.edu or 848-445-0572.
