Post Orientation Checklist

  • Check your ScarletMail Daily: Get in the habit of checking your email daily. You will be receiving very important information that will help prepare you for the start of your semester. This will also be the primary form of communication for all official Rutgers correspondence.
  • Submit Post Orientation Survey: We want your feedback, so we can make the Orientation experience even better for new Scarlet Knights in the future! Keep an eye out for an email with this survey link!
  • Complete AlcoholEdu Module: This module educates you on the facts and risks of alcohol use and abuse. Sent via email on August 1st; due September 1st.
  • Complete Transit Financial Wellness Module: This module introduces helpful financial tips and helps prepare you for financial management and responsibility in college. Sent via email on August 1st; due September 1st.
  • Complete Not Anymore Module: Following SCREAM theatre and your conversation during Orientation, this module increases your awareness of sexual assault and provides information about resources. Sent via email on August 1st; due September 1st.
  • Complete the Academic Integrity Tutorial: This module will help to better prepare you for the academic expectations of collegiate level work. Sent via email on August 1st; due September 1st.
  • Submit Immunization Forms: If you have not already done so, submit your immunization forms via email at vaccine@rci.rutgers.edu
  • FERPA Waiver: Review and discuss the FERPA waiver with your family. For more information visit compliance.rutgers.edu/ferpa
  • Download the Rutgers App: Never be out of the loop again! Get bus schedules, campus updates, direct links to helpful resources and academic information, and daily menus at your fingertips!
  • Order a Parking Permit: Planning to have a car on campus? Visit parktran.rutgers.edu/studentpark.shtml
  • Select a Meal Plan: Whether you are a resident or commuter, visit your Enrollment Pathway to choose the best meal plan for you.
  • Save Important Phone Numbers: Save the numbers for RUPD (emergency & non), Knight Mover, and RU-info. You’ll be happy you took the time to add these contacts.
  • Create a getINVOLVED Profile: Add a picture, select your interests, browse the abundance of student organizations and track their events!
  • Explore Sakai and myRutgers: Get familiar with these super helpful tools. You’ll be spending lots of time on them and will become your best friends.
  • Sign up for Emergency Notifications and Text Alerts from RUPD: Edit your Emergency Notification settings here and sign up for Text Alerts through Nixle,
  • Sign up for a Campus Mailbox: Go to myRutgers, then “My Tab”, scroll down and find the Mail/Packages instructions.

First Semester Checklist

To help you navigate your first semester, we’ve highlighted a few things we think are important for you to do! Make the most of your first few months and keep on top of important tasks.

  • Attend the Fall Involvement Fair: Stop by and browse over 400 student organizations, departments, and community partners you have the opportunity to be part of and utilize!
  • Participate in Welcome Days: Don’t miss the new programming during the first few weeks of the fall semester! Full schedule of events available at welcomedays.rutgers.edu
  • Get to Know Your Professors: Introduce yourself before or after class, go to office hours for extra help, and/or communicate via email. Your professors are a key support and resource for your academic success.
  • Memorize your RUID: Along with your first and last name, this piece of information is going to be most frequently requested. Go ahead and memorize it to say yourself from pulling out your card all the time.
  • Learn the Rutgers Bus System: Keep your bus cheat sheet card handy until you have the routes down. It’s only a matter of time before you’re speaking the RU Bus Lingo!
  • Pay Your Term Bill: Your due date can be found on your bill. Visit myRutgers to view your bill and learn more about your payment options.
  • Complete AlcoholEdu Module Part 2: Part 2 will be sent via email during the fall semester.
  • Get involved! Join a club or organization that has shared interests or enhances your academic experience outside of the classroom. Don’t want to commit to a club just yet? Attend events to stay connected and meet new people!
  • Meet with Your Academic Advisor: Schedule a meeting to review your academic progress and plans. Lay out your next few semesters and make a list of classes you can take in the Spring. Check the academic advising page for more information on this.
  • Register for Your Spring Semester Classes: Once you’ve met with your advisor and are given access to register, choose your classes for the Spring semester. Use Degree Navigator and WebReg to aid the process.
  • Parent and Family Weekend: Invite your parents and family members to visit during Parent and Family Weekend. More information at familyweekend.rutgers.edu
  • Housing for Next Year: Whether you’re thinking about living on campus or off campus, have a discussion with roommates, friends and family to plan ahead for next year. Pay attention to on campus housing lottery dates.
